How to use Miqla: from one long video to ready clips

Turn one long video into up to 12 ranked vertical clips with captions. How Miqla works step by step, which settings matter and how to fix a failed video.

By the Miqla team · Updated

Miqla turns one long video into a set of short vertical clips, ready to post on TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. You give it a podcast, a stream, an interview, a webinar or a lecture. It listens to the whole thing, picks the moments that stand on their own, frames each one around whoever is speaking, adds animated captions and ranks the clips so you know what to post first. There is no timeline to scrub and nothing to edit unless you want to.

Who it is for

People who already record long content and want it to reach more people in short form: podcasters, streamers, coaches, educators, founders, marketers and agencies. If you talk on camera for half an hour a week, you already have a week of short posts; Miqla finds them.

From a link to clips, step by step

  1. Add your video. Paste a link from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, LinkedIn or Twitch, or upload a file up to 10 GB, at New clip.
  2. See the price before anything starts. Miqla shows the length and what it costs in credits. One credit is one minute of video, so a 45-minute podcast costs 45 credits.
  3. Check the settings. Your Preferences are filled in. Change anything for this one video, or leave it as it is.
  4. Let it run. Most projects are ready within minutes; long videos take longer. You can close the tab, it keeps going.
  5. Pick your clips. You get up to 12 clips, best first. Each has a title, a length and a virality score from 0 to 10. Preview them, tweak captions if you like, and download.

The settings that matter

  • Format: 9:16 vertical for TikTok, Reels and Shorts; 1:1 square for LinkedIn and X feeds; 16:9 for a regular YouTube video.
  • Language: the spoken language, or auto-detect. English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Hindi and Russian are supported.
  • Clip length: auto, under 30 seconds, 30 to 60, 60 to 90 or 90 to 180 seconds. Short and punchy suits a new account; a complete thought from a lesson suits 60 to 90.
  • Captions, hook, emoji, highlighted words and silence cuts: switch each on or off. The hook is a headline over the first three seconds, the moment a viewer decides to stay.
  • Moment focus: tell Miqla what to look for in a sentence, for example "only the parts about pricing" or "moments for an ad for my course".

Save the ones you always use as defaults in Preferences, so every new project starts with them.

What you get in each clip

A rendered vertical video with the speaker framed in the middle, captions burned in if you want them, a thumbnail and a title written from what is said in the clip. The virality score is an estimate of how well the clip may do as a short. It tells you where to start, not what will happen: no tool can promise views.

Sometimes a video gives fewer than 12 clips. That happens when it has fewer moments that work on their own, and Miqla does not pad the set with weak ones. The price is for analysing the whole video, so it is the same either way.

Your videos stay yours

You own your videos and the clips made from them. Miqla only stores and processes them to make your clips, and does not sell personal information. Only submit videos you own or have the rights to edit and repost. The details are in the Privacy Policy.

When something goes wrong

A project that fails costs nothing: its credits come back in full. The usual causes and fixes:

  • The video is private, age-restricted or removed. Use a public link, or download the video and upload the file.
  • A live stream is still running. Wait until it ends, then paste the link again.
  • No speech was found. Miqla works on spoken content; music-only or silent footage gives no clips.
  • The video is too long. Cut it into parts and upload them one by one.
  • A link to a playlist or a channel. Paste the link of one video instead.
